RESEARCH SEMINAR

ON DISPARITIES IN HEALTH AS OUR FOCAL POINT FOR TRAINING PRE- AND POST-DOCTORAL TRAINEES

The focal point of RGDH is a research seminar on disparities in health which is seen as essential to the training of pre- and post-doctoral trainees, professional colleagues, and consultants being prepared for and/or supported in their pursuit of careers dedicated to health disparity reduction and elimination. While held year-round, each spring this seminar is included as part of a spring course that includes a weekend conference—the Annual Health Disparities Conference. Founder and Director, Dr. Barbara Wallace, leads this research seminar, bringing together pre- and post-doctoral fellows (many of whom are present and past Columbia University Doctoral Students), professional colleagues, and research group consultants dedicated to careers in health disparities. The seminar is a setting for promoting and designing culturally appropriate research, interventions/practice models, and scholarship that address regional, national, and international disparities in health. Our pre- and post-doctoral fellows, professional colleagues, and consultants possess broad expertise in addressing health disparities within our global community—including America, the Caribbean, and Africa; many have personal roots and close connections with people indigenous to these areas, driving their deep commitment to closing the disparities and inequities gaps in health impacting a global community.
